Webmastering from abroad [ongoing website changes].

19/11/08: Few small changes to comply with website version which has been installled. Most of these changes will not be seen but are simply for compatibility. Winter has started here. Had to put a woolly fleece on to take the dogs for their walk on the beach this morning but had to take it off again as temperature on beach was 26C. Very clear out to sea with the Greek island of Kos quite visible on the horizon at the far end of the gulf - "the waves they was fiddlin' and small; there were no wrecks and nobody drownded; fact nothin' to laugh at at all...." [Stanley Holloway - Albert and the Lion]. For those who don't know Albert and the Lion, see "Funnies" on the Carvers' Forum at the right. Rained last night for the first time since last month, but dry by morning. Have been very busy with my village website [ gokovabelediye.com ] which is the official council website. They never had one before. Lots of work to do to it yet but all underway.

18/08/08: Whilst there are only 50 mini-sites available for members to show their work, many of them have never been visited or used by the people to whom they were allocated so today I removed those members sites freeing up around 30 for those who would like to use them. If you want a mini-site, just contact me from the contacts page and I'll set one up for you. No problem. Bad news on the weather front from UK. I heard on radio 2 this morning that this has been the wettest August on record for the last 100 years. Here in Turkey, we have the opposite.  Here on the Turkish Med I last saw a cloud at the beginning of May. Every day is wall to Wall sunshine. Some days too hot to spend sittin in the garden....... My faithful Panda 4x4 gave up the ghost last week so it went away in disgrace and has now been replaced by a Fiat Fiorino Active which I don't believe is released in the UK until spring 09. Very nice little car bit like a small version of the Fiat Doblo but 1300cc turbo diesel and already proving extremely economical. I know there is a Fiat Fiorino van on sale in UK but this is full MPV like the Doblo.

1/1/08: Happy new year to you all.  No website changes though some are in the planning. Concerned that some members have opened mini-websites but left them empty. The programme we use for the mini-websites is a freebie for a limited number of users. Once we exceed that number, we have to pay for any extra sites. Please be fair to other users and either complete your sites or don't open them as it means that eventually, users who really want sites will not be able to have them and we could end up with a lot of half finished sites.

24/10/07: As you may have noticed [no fooling you guys] I have changed the page header image. I was in Marmaris the other day doing my weekly shopping when Gina noticed this doorway which I must have passed dozens of times. I managed to take a picture which appears in the "stories" column of the main menu, without being dragged in to buy something. At first it looks a bit overdone, but is actually very well executed. My impession is Malay woodcarving. What do you think?

01/10/07: Added the full text of "How To" to AAA member mini-website. AAA [aka fred] is a fictitious member who is NOT an admin - just an ordinary member. By logging in with this account I see exactly what you see, not the full gamut of stuff that Admin sees. I can then check just how it works for you guys. Fred has been around for a couple of years or so.

5/09/07:Few more small changes which may go unnoticed. Just got over the hottest summer I've know in Turkey in the past 20 years. Mad dogs and Englishmen? Not likely! Here on the Turkish Med, we haven't seen a solitary cloud in the sky since late April. Temperatures have quite often been in the early 50s and this has meant hiding away in the house with the air-con on until evening. It has gone down to around 28C in the evenings now - actually gets a bit nippy at times!

3/09/07: Once again, login reintroduced by popliar request!  This has meant that I can now put a new "Image Uploader" on the site accessible from the User Menu after you login, so no longer the need to send stuff to us by email. I have already been able to add User Pages to the site - these are mini-websites for members. Anyone can read them and if you are logged in, you can add your own mini-website or update your present one.

24/05/07: New galleries added. As we no longer have a requirement to login, all news items and pictures for inclusion must be emailed to us. [ you are still able to login if you would like to show that you are a regular visitor to the site. Your username will be shown in the "Who's Online" box ]. Please use the "Contact Us" page to make initial contact with details. We will give you an email address to send your items/pictures to.

21/05/07: All access requirements removed. This is on a test basis but means that members cannot upload to the galleries as we have no way of regulating who posts. ie. there are a lot of advertisers, porn sites etc who would relish the opportunity to post to an "open" website. Anyone, member or not, who wishes to post a picture to the galleries has one choice only - they must email any pics to us that they would like shown. Also, there can be no "private pages" for the use of clubs and their members.

15/05/07: New access system designed to allow members to access only menus relative to their registration. Example: ALL visitors/members can access all public items in menus, but Coniscliffe Carving Club members cannot access the "private" menu of Shropshire Woodcarvers and vice-versa. All "club" members of any club, can access their own private pages as well as any "private" pages of the main website, U2cancarve. Members registered only with U2cancarve, can access the private pages of U2 but cannot access the private pages of any of the club sites. Gallery added to each club site as well as main gallery for U2 members. Just read what I've written and not sure I understand it myself now!
